For Professionals

Clinicians, care managers, educators, and organizations

IPIC works with clinicians, care managers, organizational leaders, and other professionals who support individuals and families facing complex medical decisions — particularly in settings where uncertainty, tradeoffs, and high emotional stakes are common.

This work grows out of decades of clinical practice in critical care, oncology, and palliative medicine, as well as long-standing experience in education, program development, and communication training.

  • Consultation and mentoring

Supporting clinicians and leaders navigating complex cases, communication challenges, or role transitions.

  • Program and curriculum development

Designing or strengthening initiatives focused on decision support, serious illness communication, and values-aligned care.

  • Communication analysis and skill development

Helping clinicians and teams reflect on difficult interactions, identify moments of disconnect or opportunity, and build approaches that foster clarity, trust, and shared understanding.

  • Organizational perspective

Offering an external, clinically grounded lens to help programs assess how decision-making and communication function in real-world practice.

Areas of Professional Collaboration

The scope of work is tailored to the needs and context of each engagement.

How IPIC Approaches Professional Work

IPIC’s professional work is guided by the same principles that shape its work with patients and families: clear understanding, careful attention to values and priorities, and respect for uncertainty.

Rather than offering one-size-fits-all solutions, IPIC focuses on:

  • clarifying what matters in a given context

  • identifying points of friction or misalignment

  • supporting approaches that are both clinically grounded and human-centered
