Who We Are

IPIC is led by Sharona Sachs, MD, a physician with three decades of experience caring for people and families facing complex medical decisions — in pulmonary and critical care medicine, oncology, and palliative medicine — across academic medical centers and integrated health systems.

Over the course of her career, Dr. Sachs has worked closely with patients, families, and clinicians at moments when choices carry real uncertainty and deeply personal consequences.

Experience and Approach

In addition to clinical care, Dr. Sachs has spent many years teaching and mentoring clinicians, building interdisciplinary programs, and developing approaches to decision support that emphasize:

  • clear understanding of the options at hand

  • careful attention to what matters most to each person

  • guidance in mapping specific choices and likely outcomes to those priorities

This work has taken place at the bedside, within hospitals and training programs, and at a systems level, where values-aligned decision support has been integrated into routine care.

Why IPIC

IPIC grew directly out of this experience. It reflects a commitment to helping people make sense of unfamiliar medical choices in a way that is informed, values-centered, and responsive to their specific circumstances.
